« Monochrome », c’est ainsi que Frédéric Prat désigne une partie du tableau, celle qui est appelée à recevoir la couleur comme Rose (2007), le fond aurions-nous pu écrire, mais il n’est pas question ici de fond et de forme. « La couleur du fond détermine la surface, installe le terrain, fait lieu, prépare le plan », précise Frédéric Prat. La chorégraphie chromatique peut alors commencer, mais le monochrome a tout son rôle à jouer, dynamique autant que les couleurs qui sont juxtaposées en épaisseur, les actions prennent place. "Monochrome" is how Frédéric Prat designates a part of the painting, the part that is called upon to receive the color like Rose (2007), the background, we could have written, but there is no question here of background and form. "The color of the background determines the surface, sets the ground, makes the place, prepares the plan," says Frederic Prat.
